Coronavirus and Travel: A Message to Our Travelers

Updated March 14, 2020 11:23AM CST

The outbreak of COVID-19 continues to be a big concern, especially if you are planning a vacation in the near future. The confusion and uncertainty surrounding the situation is frustrating, and makes it difficult to plan with confidence.

Rest assured that we are continuing to watch the situation very closely, and communicating with our many contacts in Europe to get an accurate picture of how it is affecting things there. In addition, we are constantly monitoring information sources such as the US Department of State, the Center for Disease Control, The World Health Organization, and various other travel-related outlets. We have been a travel company for almost 25 years, so although this particular situation is somewhat new, we have dealt with various other unpleasant and frustrating events in the past…terrorism, hurricanes, strikes of all kinds, and even a revolution. In doing so we prioritize the security of our guests, partners and employees above all else. While we are confident in our ability to respond to the current situation, we will not hesitate to move, reschedule or cancel trips if necessary.

We believe this is the best response to a situation that is changing on a daily basis. We are hopeful that the virus will subside significantly over the next several weeks.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY TOUR IS CANCELLED DUE TO TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

If we cancel your tour due to travel restrictions, you will have two options:

  1. Receive a FULL refund including your original non-refundable deposit.
  2. Have your payment applied towards any future tour, with no expiration date.

IF I PURCHASED TRAVEL INSURANCE, WHAT HAPPENS TO MY PAID PREMIUM IF THE TOUR IS CANCELLED?

For the most accurate answer you’ll need to speak to your travel insurance company. However, in our experience most companies will do the following:

  1. If you reschedule your tour, you simply change the dates of departure in your policy. There is typically no charge to do this. We recommend doing this as soon as you reschedule your tour.
  2. If you choose to take the full refund, most travel insurance companies will provide you a voucher for the amount of the premium for travel to the same region (ie Europe). Most vouchers are honored up to two years.

I PURCHASED MY OWN FLIGHTS, WHAT HAPPENS TO MY AIRFARE?

This is obviously up to the discretion of your airline, but it’s likely that flights are being cancelled for the same reasons we are cancelling your tour. Our communications with our clients and our own personal interactions with airlines indicate they are being very flexible in offering full refunds and/or vouchers valid for future travel. Please contact your airline directly.

We will contact our travelers if any of our scheduled departures are impacted, or as we receive relevant information. Despite the circumstances, we remain optimistic that the situation will stabilize.

As we have new information, we will update this page: https://www.gogetlost.com/coronavirus-and-travel-a-message-to-our-travelers/
