As the sun begins to set, we gather together for our welcome dinner. Indulge in a sumptuous feast of Sicilian delicacies, prepared with love and pride by local culinary maestros. Many regions of Italy are famous for a type of cooking known as cucina povera, a term used to describe simple dishes derived from peasant staples. Sicilian cooking is a different thing entirely! Here is one of the foremost kitchens of Italy, overflowing with an endless variety of seafood, vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, grains, and wines. Although the simple elegance of peasant cooking has contributed greatly to modern Sicilian cuisine, the culinary expertise and sophistication of the royal chefs of Sicilia have defined and refined the culinary art of this island nation. Considered to be the most coveted and valuable possessions of the nobles in the "Kingdom of the Two Sicily's", their private chefs were in great demand over all of Europe for hundreds of years. As if all this wasn't enough, Sicilia is also famous for its sumptuous desserts. Cannoli, tiramisu, and sorbet all originated here, and the ice cream and gelato of Sicilia is "poetry in the mouth!" Luckily, we can enjoy this great heritage of incredible food every day that we're in wonderful Sicilia!

With contented hearts and satisfied palates, we retreat to the comfort of our hotel, where sweet dreams of the days ahead await.

After a delightful breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a captivationg exploration of Palermo, where more than anywhere else in Sicily, different historical epochs are revealed through the overlapping architectural styles. Its millennia-old history has bestowed upon it an artistic and architectural heritage ranging from the remains of Punic walls to Liberty-style villas, noble palaces, 17th-century squares, Baroque churches, and Neoclassical theatres.

Once the residence of emirs and kings, Palermo preserves monuments from the Arab-Norman period, including the stunning Cathedral, the Church of Martorana, one of the most fascinating Byzantine churches of the Middle Ages in Italy and the Palatine Chapel. The latter is the highest expression, from a historical-artistic perspective, of coexistence among seemingly irreconcilable cultures, religions, and ways of thinking, as it was built under the enlightened rule of Roger II with the collaboration of Byzantine, Muslim, and Latin artisans.

Afterward, you will have the chance to admire the magnificent Teatro Massimo and the Fountain of Piazza Pretoria, adorned with 16th-century sculptures and located at the edge of the ancient Kalsa district.

In the afternoon you will move to Monreale, perched above Palermo, where you will visit its legendary Arab-Norman Cathedral, known as the eighth wonder of the world, and often considered one of the greatest artistic achievements in Europe.  Prepare to be awe-struck by the architectural magnificence and intricate mosaics that adorn every surface, transporting you to a realm of artistic brilliance. Delve into tranquility as we wander through the splendid Cloister, where fragrant orange trees and exquisite sculptures create a serene oasis.

Returning to Palermo, prepare for a captivating walking tour through its lively streets. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere as we explore bustling markets and charming alleyways. Unleash your inner foodie as we delve into Palermo's street food scene, savoring mouthwatering delicacies such as arancini, panelle, and cannoli. Each bite will ignite your taste buds with the authentic flavors of Sicilian street fare.

Tonight you are free for dinner, explore the amazing restaurants of Palermo to find the perfect place! 

An amphitheatre on the sea, Castellammare del Golfo, as its name suggests, overlooks the gulf of the same name, the largest in Sicily. Its imposing Arab-Norman castle is its undisputed symbol, its beautiful stairways offer captivating views, the high bastions overlook the harbor, and beautiful churches rise above the urban fabric. A city where every corner tells a story of its prosperous past. Founded as a trading port for ancient Segesta, it continued to be so for the Phoenicians and then the Romans. But even though its history is rooted in ancient Sicily, Castellammare today is a youthful city with a vibrant atmosphere, especially in summer.

You will also stop in the enchanting Scopello, with its splendid stacks and its ancient Tonnara, one of the most important and ancient in all of Sicily; it was not built before the 13th century and considerably enlarged by the Sanclemente family during the 15th and 16th centuries.

Next, we venture to the charming medieval village of Erice, nestled atop Monte San Giuliano. Lose yourself in its enchanting alleys adorned with picturesque craft shops. Feel the whispers of history as you wander through this timeless gem, soaking in the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. 

Later in the day we arrive at the charming and well-known town of Marsala, a Mediterranean city divided between sea and land, featuring unforgettable colors: bright yellow, intense blue, strong red, dazzling white and natural green. Famous throughout the world for the excellent wine that bears its name, Marsala went down in history for being the city where Garibaldi landed in Sicily for the liberation of Italy from the domination of the Bourbon kings. Marsala is internationally famous for several things: its wine, its history, and its wonderful coastline and beaches. The present-day name, deriving from the Arabic “Marsa Allah”, meaning “Port of God”, gives us an idea of just how strategically important the town once was. Before the Arabs, however, were the Romans, and before the Romans, the Carthaginians.

Tonight we'll sit down to group meal in Marsala, featuring culinary specialties and wines from the area. 

We'll begin the day on a boat, visiting the small and enchanting Island of Mothia, an ancient Phoenician colony founded in the eighth century. B.C. located in the center of the Stagnone di Marsala lagoon. In the middle of the island stands the beautiful nineteenth-century house of the Whitakers, which houses the museum containing objects found on the island, in Lilibeo (ancient Marsala) and in the necropolis of Birgi, on the coast opposite Mothia. Equally beautiful to see La Casa delle Anfore, behind the museum.

Next we'll explore the Stagnone salt pans in Marsala, with a salt harvest by hand alongside the salt workers. This is a fascinating experience that will immerse you in one of Sicily's oldest traditions of the popular Salt Road. Here the salt marshes have given rise to one of the oldest salt-extracting industries in the world! Nestled between Trapani and Marsala, the Salt Road is now protected for its interesting birdlife, and is also an important site of industrial archaeology.

Later this morning our focus will shift from salt to wine...in fact, the famed marsala wine!

Since ancient times, wines with a strong character have been produced here, linked to the unique nature of the grapes that ripen under the scorching sun. It was not until 1773 that the English merchant John Woodhouse tasted these wines in the taverns of the port, and fell in love so much so that he wanted to send some barrels to England, adding a good dose of brandy, however, to prevent the wine from perishing during the crossing. Thus, was born Marsala as we know it today. A wine that was so successful that it attracted other English entrepreneurs to Sicily who decided to produce it, to which the first Italian, Vincenzo Florio, joined in a short time. Having also arrived by sea from Calabria, Vincenzo Florio was the first to build the fortune of the family which was based, among other things, on an impressive naval fleet and dedicated himself to the production of this unique wine, creating the suggestive Cellars in 1833. The history of the Florio family is full of illustrious characters, marked by a talent for entrepreneurial innovation which in a century and a half changed the economic face of the island forever. 

So now we tour the world-famous Florio winery...

The visit starts in front of the majestic giant vats, built at the end of the 19th century and still used for the refinement of Marsala wine. It continues inside the 3 fascinating barrel chambers, 165 meters long and running beneath 104 arches, under which 1.400 small barrels and about 600 larger barrels and vats of different capacities are arrayed, as c. 5.500.000 liters of Marsala wines age in silence and stillness. After experiencing the barrel vaults, where the ancient tuff stone floor has been restored, you will reach the avant-garde tasting rooms where you will enjoy a memorable wine tasting experience with lunch!

Today offers one of the most memorable and authentic experiences of the journey as we venture into the heart of rural Sicily. Our destination is Sant’Angelo Muxaro, a hilltop village perched high above the Platani River Valley, where life moves at a slower pace and centuries-old traditions remain part of everyday life.

Far from Sicily's well-known tourist destinations, Sant’Angelo Muxaro reveals a side of the island few visitors ever experience. Surrounded by rolling hills, rugged landscapes, and sweeping views across the Sicani countryside, this charming village is believed by many historians to be the site of the legendary ancient city of Camico, associated with the myth of Daedalus and King Kokalos.

Today's experience is much more than a sightseeing visit—it's an opportunity to connect with the people who call this remarkable place home. Stroll through quiet streets with local residents, learn about village life, and discover traditions that have been passed from generation to generation. 

This village and its inhabitants are a treasure, highlighting the beauty and authenticity of the territory.  Here everything moves slowly, from the town you will see panoramic views of valleys, hills, peaks, mountains one after another. The river itself flows at a measured pace, as do the flocks of sheep, and the people walking the streets or playing cards at the bar.  So now we spend the entire morning on a relaxing walk through the village streets, with tastings of typical local specialties and genuine encounters with authentic people. We will make a stop to taste local cheeses, along with the local specialty of "pani cunzatu", a bread made here for centuries. We will also taste the village's cookies, wines, olive oil, and other seasonal artisanal products from the zone.

You'll also visit the village's archaeological museum and historic church, gaining insight into a community whose roots stretch back thousands of years.

As the day draws to a close, we travel to one of Sicily's most extraordinary treasures—the Valley of the Temples. Bathed in the warm light of late afternoon, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to some of the finest Greek temples outside of Greece. Walk among the remarkably preserved Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Juno, and the Temple of Hercules as your guide brings to life the story of ancient Akragas, once described by the Greek poet Pindar as "the most beautiful city built by mortals."

Following this unforgettable journey through both ancient and modern Sicily, enjoy a group dinner tonight and overnight in your 4-star hotel in Agrigento.

Continuing towards the central-eastern area of Sicily, today you will discover Piazza Armerina and the beautiful late-imperial Roman Villa del Casale, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will admire the extraordinary mosaics that adorn this ancient residence, a unique testimony of Roman life and art. After you'll reach a hill between Sampieri, Cava d'Aliga, and Scicli, gently sloping toward the sea.

Here, you'll experience a multisensory journey through approximately 200 species of aromatic and medicinal plants. The trail winds through dozens of aromatic plants, ornamental plants, and medicinal herbs, chosen for their uniqueness. You'll be able to learn about them, smell them, touch them, and taste them, surrounded by a breathtaking backdrop. We'll end with an aperitif in the countryside, a true culinary journey: a blend of traditional Sicilian aromas and flavors.

We'll continue through the countryside to visit Scicli, a town that’s one of a kind! It owes its beauty to the sweet landscape of Mediterranean maquis, with almond and orange groves and the sea but also to the magnificent history leading it to become the wonderful city of art it is today. Gently nested in a basin among rocky hills and immersed in the magnificence of the Iblei mountains, Scicli is set within three narrow valleys referred as “caves” by the locals (the valleys of Modica, Santa Maria La Nova and San Bartolomeo). Many buildings make the historic city center a true Baroque jewel! Of great interest is the fortified core of the castle and the Church of San Matteo, which rise on the hills overlooking the city and the surrounding landscape.

You'll end the day in Ragusa Ibla, the ancient historic center of Ragusa and a UNESCO heritage site since 2002. It is an area steeped in pure Sicilianity expressed through the Ragusan stone paving, the alleys, the stairways, the splendid terraces with panoramic views from which you can admire entire the expanses of vegetation that surround the Hyblean capital. The magnificence of the Cathedral of San Giorgio draws attention and dominates the city thanks to its imposing and panoramic staircase. Tree-lined avenues, stone benches, ancient churches, elegant fountains and sculpted columns decorate the nineteenth-century Giardino Ibleo, ideal for exploring on foot to fully appreciate its beauty.

Tonight you'll be ensconced in your hotel at the edge of the old city, then enjoy a group dinner with your traveling companions. Local dishes and wines will dominate the menu, as always happens when exploring the different regions of Sicily. 

We'll spend the morning exploring the enchanting beauty of Noto, rightfully crowned as the capital of Sicilian Baroque, and set amid olive groves and almond trees on a plateau overlooking the Asinaro Valley. Often referred to as the "garden of stone", Noto dates from the 9th century and has elements of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Norman, Aragonese, and then Spanish culture...until it was destroyed in 1692 by an earthquake. The town was completely rebuilt by the best Sicilian artisans to make it into the Baroque gem it is today. Wander through its streets adorned with architectural treasures that have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Indulge in the delightful flavors of the region by savoring a delicious granita, a refreshing treat that will tantalize your taste buds. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Palazzo Nicolaci, a magnificent noble residence, and explore the breathtaking lanes of the city center.

Next, we venture onwards to Syracuse, the crown jewel of Greek colonies in Sicily. In its heyday it was formidable, competing even with mighty Athens, and dared take on Carthage and even Rome. At one point in ancient times its wealth and size were unmatched by any other city in Europe. Delve into the rich history of this remarkable city as you explore its renowned Archaeological Park. Traverse the charming island of Ortigia, where a majestic white cathedral and the splendid Fountain of Arethusa await your discovery, along with numerous small shops and stores, perfect for wandering.

As the day comes to a close, we arrive in the coastal town of Aci Trezza, where you are will enjoy dinner and settle in for a restful overnight stay at your gorgeous 4 Star seaside resort.

Today the road trip through Sicily continues towards Catania, whose historic center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Starting from the historic “pescheria” (the old fish market), you will reach the dramatic Piazza del Duomo, with its stunning Cathedral and the famous Lava Stone Elephant statue, then continue on to Piazza Università. You will be able to admire the beautiful Baroque Via dei Crociferi, home to the renowned Monastery of St. Benedict, made famous by the novel Storia di una Capinera by Verga, and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Perched on a cliff, the captivating town of Taormina overlooks an enchanting stretch of turquoise sea. The blue of the sea, the green and luxuriant nature and the enchanting beaches make the view unique in the world. You will walk through the historic streets of Taormina towards the fascinating Greek-Roman theatre from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naxos with a privileged view of Mount Etna. Just visit it to find yourself projected into the glorious Greek period of Sicily, whose majesty was poured out on every brick of the theatre, born to create a terrace overlooking the sea from which you could admire the world. 

Late afternoon will find us returning to our hotel in the coastal village of Aci Trezza, where the legend says that the blinded Cyclops Polyphemus hurled the Faraglioni rocks at the fleeing Odysseus. The sea is the main attraction in this charming village of volcanic rock. This landscape, with its castle and coastline dotted with lemon trees, agaves, and palms, is one of Sicily's most photographed and renowned, even internationally.

Prepare to be awe-struck this morning as we ascend the slopes of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe at 11,165' and a revered UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient Greeks viewed it as the home of Vulcan, God of fire, and home of Cyclops, the one-eyed monster. Etna continually reminds us that she is far from dormant. In 2006 through 2008 Etna put on an awesome, dramatic display of volcanic fireworks that spewed ash and smoke over a mile in the air, while new flows of lava traced her slopes. The performance was repeated in 2012, 2018, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, and as recently as June of 2026 Etna was producing new ash cones and spewing ash and smoke over a mile high. Etna is also the tallest mountain in Sicily, with a landscape that changes dramatically from vineyards and farms to stands of pines that give way to alpine scrub as the altitude increases. Eventually the surreal views of ash, lava, and steam dominate the land. 

Etna is a living symbol of Sicily, a majestic entity that dominates the island with its imposing presence. This gentle giant is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and all those who want to experience the emotion of being in the presence of the primordial forces of the Earth. 

Our tour begins by passing through picturesque villages, centuries-old witnesses to Sicily's rich traditions, immersed in the unique atmosphere of the volcano. You will have the opportunity to walk along the ridge of extinct craters, revealing the secrets of Etna's structure and volcanic activity. Together, we will discover the wonders of a lava flow cave, exploring it in complete safety. We will then ascend in our off-road vehicles along the traces of ancient lava flows, reaching panoramic viewpoints offering breathtaking views. During the ascent, we will observe how the vegetation transforms with increasing altitude, from lava flows to a mosaic of biodiversity: apple orchards, cherry orchards, vineyards, hazelnut trees, chestnut forests, oaks, holm oaks, junipers, Turkey oaks, downy oaks, pines, birches, beech trees, and much more. We will explore enchanting places such as the Dagale, islands of land and vegetation that the lava miraculously spared, and Piano Provenzana, with its view of the azure Ionian Sea and the traces of the 2002 lava flow.

But Etna is not just adventure and wild nature; it is also culture and tradition. Its slopes are dotted with picturesque villages, vineyards and farms where some of the best Sicilian wines and products are produced. Tasting a glass of Etna DOC wine while admiring the sunset over the volcano is an experience that touches the soul, a moment of deep connection with the land and its wonders.

For lunch today we'll visit a winery on Etna for a guided tour and tasting.  Then the winery will host us for a wonderful Sicilian farm lunch featuring local dishes and their own production of wines. 

In the afternoon we'll return we'll return to our beach resort for some relaxation and downtime. Tonight, you can look forward to an amazing farewell dinner, cherishing the new friends and new memories created during our Sicilian journey. Adventures (and misadventures) from the trip are re-lived and laughed about, everyone and everything is toasted, addresses and e-mails are copied, and heartfelt goodbyes are exchanged with all your newfound lifelong friends that you "Got Lost" in Italy with.

This morning after breakfast, your Go Get Lost tour will end. The nearby international airport of Catania is just a cab ride away and has connections to just about anywhere in Europe and beyond.
