Join David and Danielle Anderson of The Corkscrew on their extraordinary excursion to Croatia!  We’ll ramble through breathtaking landscapes, marvel at the fascinating culture, enjoy the exquisite food and taste excellent wines from some of the region's best producers! This distinctive tour starts in Zagreb, the historical capital city of Croatia, then winds its way south through the charming inland countryside to the scenic coastal islands, exploring the enchanting small towns and marvelous landscapes this region is known for, ending in the enchanting seaside city of Dubrovnik, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”.

Along the way we’ll explore natural parks, discover beautiful historic cities and wander into picturesque villages full of culture and charm. This Balkan area is special in that in addition to having a long history stretching back millennia, it also has a recent history of warfare and tragedy. Many of the people you meet on your trip lived through those turbulent times, and their stories and experiences lend an amazing richness to your journey. This adventure is ideal for those who enjoy superb wine, local cuisine, amazing scenery, and immersing themselves in history and culture.

Danielle and David are only taking a limited number of travelers for this small-group adventure. Don’t get left behind!

Danielle and David, her husband of 35 years have two daughters and five grandchildren and reside in Springfield, Illinois.

Itinerary & Map

Day 1 - Zagreb

Your Go Get Lost adventure starts this morning at our meeting point, the lobby of our centrally located hotel in Zagreb. You'll meet our tour leader and traveling companions, then head off for a city tour of Zagreb, the fascinating capitol city of Croatia. The unique blend of medieval towers, Hapsburg architecture, 19th century palaces, open-air markets, and ancient cathedrals, make Zagreb the perfect city to explore.

Leaving Zagreb on our private coach we'll head west into the Plesvica region, renown for its wine estates. We'll stop at one of the area's most prestigious family wineries, run by the 5th generation of winemakers. Here we'll have a tour and tasting of some of their wares.

After an exciting first day we'll head to our home for the night, a beautiful 4 Star hotel tucked away just a few miles from Plitvice National Park. We'll have time to check in and freshen up before we meet for dinner.

Day 2 - Plitvice

This morning, we embark on yet another totally unique adventure, a walk in the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park. This is a land of enchantment, with scenery that will take your breath away. The park's crown jewel is the chain of 16 terraced lakes, all joined by a series of over 90 picturesque waterfalls that wind through limestone canyons. As we walk along the meandering walkways and trails, we'll be surrounded by the park's awe-inspiring limestone canyons and sparkling waters that seem to change color with each turn. Get ready to capture some of the most Instagram-worthy shots of your life, as the park's fairytale landscape will leave you spellbound. The walk is crowned by the 230-foot waterfall, a true natural wonder that adds to the already mesmerizing beauty of the area.

Lunch today will be combined with a wine pairing at another wonderful family-owned vineyard. Within a unique microclimate influenced by the Krka River and the nearby Adriatic Sea, all grapes here are indigenous varieties and organically grown.

Late afternoon will find us arriving in one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Croatia...Split. We'll check into our hotel in the city center and have the rest of the evening free to wander. There are plenty of excellent restaurants in the old town, pick one and enjoy!

Day 3 - Split

Today is all about exploring this amazing city! Split's historic core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dating back to the Roman era, and is surrounded by beautiful scenery including glimmering pebble coves, pine-fringed shorelines, and soaring mountains with hiking trails crisscrossing throughout. Split is also known for being the gateway to some of the most stunning islands in the Mediterranean. One of the most enthralling areas of Split is the Old Town, a maze of streets and cobblestoned lanes that surround the impressive Diocletian's Palace. This area is steeped in history and is a must-visit for any culture enthusiast. People's Square (Narodni Trg) is the heart of the Old Town, where cafes and restaurants spill out onto the square

We'll have a fascinating tour with an expert local guide of all of the most interesting facets of Split. Our tour will culminate in one of the old town's best known wine bars for a tasting of the local vintages.

The rest of the day is free to wander and get lost in Split's many streets and squares. It's historic and captivating Old Town can keep you occupied all day, shop til you drop! If you feel like venturing further afield there is the stunning coastline and myriad nearby islands to explore. You can choose a half-day afternoon boat tour that departs from the nearby waterfront. Visit the Blue Cave, go swimming in the Blue Lagoon, enjoy sunning on secluded beaches, or just cruise and relax while you enjoy the scenery!

Day 4 - Hvar Island

Today we check out of our hotel and board a local catamaran ferry for the short but scenic trip to the picturesque island of Hvar. Hvar is famous for its beautiful coastline, mountainous landscape, and excellent wines! We'll visit two of Hvar's best wine estates to see first-hand how they produce such amazing wines, then sit down to a private tasting at both.

Later we'll make our way to our beautiful 4-star beach resort and check in to our seaview rooms. The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy! The resort has an amazing pool and there's a beach just in front. Or in just 10 minutes you can walk to Hvar Town's picturesque port, with a charming square lined by shops, bars and restaurants.

Day 5 - Korcula

Another short ferry ride will bring us to the nearby island of Korcula, allegedly the birthplace of Marco Polo. Korcula is known for its quaint cobblestone streets, boutique shops, restaurant-lined alleyways, amazing blue-water beaches, and a flourishing wine culture!

As we cross scenic Korcula island we'll stop in at two of their best wine estates and have tours and tastings at both! This sun-drenched coast produces some of Croatia's best wines from indigenous grapes...prepare yourself to enjoy some varieties you've never experienced.

Later we'll make our way to another beautiful seaside resort, overlooking a magnificent pool and beach. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free...explore nearby Korcula old town and harbor or hang out at the gorgeous resort, or both!

Day 6 - Ston and Dubrovnik

This morning after breakfast we'll board a local ferry for a scenic ride to the nearby Peljesac Peninsula. Peljesac attracts visitors with its natural beauty, authentic Croatian charm, rich history, charming beaches, exquisite red wine, and delectable seafood.

Here we'll stop at one of the most prestigious wine estates for lunch with a wine pairing of their vintages. The estate has a stunning venue, with a backdrop of sheer mountain cliffs, overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

After lunch we'll continue down the peninsula to the charming town of Ston, rich with historical and cultural tradition. Ston is known as the city of salt as it has the oldest active saltworks in the world. The saltworks remains true to the tradition and a natural production method, which hasn't change since the era of antiquity. The village is also known for its stunning walls, which climb nearly vertically up the steep mountainsides overlooking the town.

Here we'll stop for a visit and a taste of Ston's most famous cuisine...oysters! If you're not into oysters you'll enjoy strolling through the medieval streets of this picturesque village.

Late afternoon will find us arriving in Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic" and our home for the next two nights. This UNESCO-protected city is where medieval history meets sun-splashed Mediterranean ambiance! After checking into your seaview rooms at your 4-star seaside resort, you'll have time to freshen up and relax a bit. Tonight your tour leader will lead you into town on the local shuttle and turn you loose in Dubrovnik's stunning old town. Heralded as one of the world's finest and most perfectly preserved medieval cities in the world. You'll be charmed by the winding cobblestone streets, restaurants galore, and beautiful squares lined by shops and cafes.

Day 7 - Mount Srd

This morning after breakfast we'll combine views, hiking and history as we embark on the trail to the top of Mount Srđ, perched above the historic city of Dubrovnik. The route was used by Dubrovnik women and children during the siege of Dubrovnik in 1991. Each night they carried supplies to the townsmen who were manning Fort Imperial at the top of Mount Srd, protecting Dubrovnik from invasion. As you ascend, prepare to be blown away by the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, with the town of Dubrovnik spread out below you. After the hike, you will take a scenic ride down on the cable car and into Dubrovnik itself. Your guide will lead you through the old city for a walking tour of its iconic streets and squares. The city has a long, amazing history of overlapping civilizations and momentous events, and even as recently as the 1990's it was a battleground.  Later you'll have free time to explore the city further and even take a jaunt of the city walls.

This evening we'll meet up with the rest of the group for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Here you can indulge in delicious local dishes and reminisce about the amazing experiences you've had on this unforgettable journey in the magical Balkans.
