Your tour departs this morning after breakfast from our meeting point in the hotel lobby in Malaga. (You might plan to arrive in Malaga the day before the tour starts in order to get over your jet lag and prepare for your adventure.) We will have a private group transfer through Southern Spain's scenic countryside to the small town of Canillas de Albaida in the Sierra Almijara mountains. Here we'll have a scenic walk to the nearby town of Competa, where we'll sit down to enjoy a wine tasting at a local winery. Later we'll move on to the historic city of Granada, situated at the base of the northern slopes of the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains, often with a dramatic backdrop of the snow capped peaks. Granada is a small city with an ancient past and a surprisingly cosmopolitan feel. After checking into our 3-Star hotel in the heart of the city, we'll walk a bit and then settle in to a wonderful Spanish dinner in one of our favorite restaurants.

Today's hike is rated EASY, with a total distance of 3.1 miles, and elevation gain of 794' and an elevation loss of 827'. The trailhead is at 1854', drops down to a low of 1434', then climbs to a high of 2067' before ending at 1877'.

This morning is a special treat, we'll have an expert local guide take us through one of the highlights of Spain...the massive palace and fortress complex known as the Alhambra and the Garden of the Generalife. Described by ancient poets as "A pearl set in emeralds", the Alhambra is a vast assortment of palaces and fortresses built for the Muslim emirs during the Nasrid dynasty, starting in the 13th century. Enduring through centuries of wars, invasions and restorations, the Alhambra today is a fascinating experience, not to be missed.

At midday we'll enjoy a lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants, then you're free for the rest of the day to explore, wander and get lost in this lovely Andalusian city. Shopping abounds in the winding streets and bustling squares. You can visit the Albaicin district, the Cathedral or simply do as the locals do and watch the world go by with a coffee on one of the squares. Maybe there’s time for a relaxing bath at the Hamam with a massage?

Today after breakfast we'll head outside of the city and into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains to an area that's still wild and relatively unknown to tourists. A beautiful trail awaits that shows off the best of the Andalusian hills. Open hillsides, limestone escarpments, and pine forests provide enchanting scenery as our path winds along the ridges and valleys. The rolling terrain is cut by streams and ridges, with occasional but fantastic views of the whole of the Sierra Nevada mountains. In the afternoon we'll return to Granada, with more time to explore.

Today's hike is rated MODERATE, with 1184' of elevation gain and 1184' of elevation loss. The total distance is 7.3 miles, starting at an elevation of 4180 feet and topping out at 4875'. The trail alternates between open countryside and some forested areas. Depending on conditions there may be an option to summit a peak along the route, which would add 1.2 miles and 522' of elevation gain/loss.

Today we move northwest into the rugged Sierra Subbeticas mountains. Here we'll have a lovely hike starting in a secluded valley and working its way down into the charming white village of Zuheros. We'll enjoy lunch at a local eatery before heading north towards Cordoba, one of the most historic and fascinating cities in all of Europe. Originally settled by the Carthaginians, Cordoba was also ruled by the Romans and Moors, who both left their mark on the city. After arriving this afternoon we'll check in to our 4-Star hotel in the center of the old town, then have a short orientation walk past some of Córdoba's fascinating spots followed by a private guided tour of the Mezquita, one of the most unique and beautiful architectural wonders of Spain! Originally known as the Mosque of Cordoba, now know as the Cathedral of Cordoba, it’s impossible to overstate its beauty, with its remarkably serene and spacious interior. One of the world's greatest works of Islamic and Christian architecture, the Mezquita hails from a refined age when Muslims, Jews and Christians lived side by side and enriched their city with a wonderful mixture of diverse, vibrant cultures.

Tonight, we'll pick our way through the winding streets to yet another excellent local restaurant, known to the locals...and to us. Perhaps afterwards you might want to sample the night life Cordoba has to offer. Don't stay out too late, though, as tomorrow we're off into the countryside again!

Today's hike is EASY, only 2 miles total with 184' of elevation gain and 889' of elevation loss. The trailhead is at 2864' of altitude and ends at the town of Zuheros at 2156'. The trail is mostly open countryside and mountain valleys.

Today you have some time free in the morning to wander Cordoba before we depart for the next leg of our journey, westward to the amazing city of Seville, the capital of Andalusia, with one of the largest historic city centers in all of Europe, tracing its history back over 2000 years. his morning, we take a walk through the city, taking in its beautiful "Mudejar" architecture (a mixture of Christian and Moorish styles), the Alcazar, the Cathedral and the riverside with its Golden Tower. Later this afternoon we have a special treat, as we're going to visit a producer of Iberian hams, which are known all over the world. Here we'll enjoy a tour of their ham-curing rooms, then sit down to a tasting of their products. To get yet another perspective on the city, we'll board our private boat for a relaxing float down the Guadalqivir river, which runs through the heart of Seville. The afternoon is free for you to explore Seville on your own...enjoy the view from the top of the Giralda Tower or maybe shop for some gifts for the loved ones back home.

Tonight is all about Flamenco! A captivating art from combining music, dance, and passion, it is a pure Andalusian experience. It is said that Seville is the heart of Flamenco, and the venues in this city are unlike any other in Spain. So tonight, we are going out on the town to one of our favorites "off-the-beaten-path" clubs where you'll be treated to a Flamenco show and dinner as others have for hundreds of years.

This morning we'll jump on bikes and make our way around Seville with a local guide to explore even more of the city. After our tour we'll sit down to an excellent lunch at on of our favorite local places, with plenty of Andalusian wine as well. Later we'll board our private coach for a scenic ride through the Spanish countryside to the spectacular village of Ronda. Perched on a dramatic cliff with stunning views over the gorge below, Ronda has a charming town center, featuring an 18th century bull ring and a multitude of shops and bars. Ronda is one of the oldest towns in Spain, built on a rocky outcropping high over the Rio Guadalevein, the town was a stronghold for the legendary Andalusian bandits who actually ruled the area from the 18th to the 20th century. The charming town center, with its many shops and bars is a pleasure to explore, with stunning views over the gorge below.

After dinner tonight, the town center of Ronda will provide an excellent place to wander...the Spanish like to stay up 'til the wee hours!

This morning after breakfast we'll have a short transfer to the scenic Sierra de Grazalema National Park, famous for its spectacularly rugged limestone landscape of cliffs, gullies, caves and gorges. Storms blowing in from the Atlantic provide ample rainfall to nurture the thick oak forests on the mountain slopes. To make the terrain even more beautiful, the area is dotted with the iconic white villages for which the region is known. Our hike today begins by winding up the mountainside, possibly cutting through small bands of sheep, and affording views of the Sierra de Grazalema Park in all directions. You'll want your camera along as you enjoy the panorama. Following the mountain valleys the pathway works its way down into one of the most beautiful of the white villages, Grazalema. We'll have time for a village stroll and then we're off to visit one of the area's premier wineries for a tour and a tasting of their best vintages. A perfect reward for a great hike!

Today's hike is rated EASY, with a total distance of 3.4 miles, and elevation gain of 673' and an elevation loss of 1558'. The trail is mostly open and exposed, with a solid trail surface.

Today we'll experience one of the world's most spectacular pathways, the Caminito del Rey, or The King's Little Pathway! Perched impossibly midway up the sheer walls of El Chorro gorge, the suspended walkway, (completely rebuilt in 2015) provides unparalleled views of the magnificent gorge. This path was once considered one of the most dangerous in the world. Today the entire route has been carefully restored, but although it's now much safer, one thing hasn't changed - the unique experience of strolling along walkways hanging over 300 feet up on a sheer cliff face. The views are unforgettable. The Caminito del Rey route is spectacular from beginning to end, running through cliffs, canyons, and a large valley. It crosses the landscapes of Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, a gorge carved out by the river Guadalhorce, with walls over 2000 feet high. The area is also inhabited by a wide variety of plant and animal species; with a little luck, you can see highland birds like Egyptian vultures, griffon vultures, or golden eagles, and mammals such as wild boar and Iberian ibex. After our walk we'll have lunch at a local eatery and refuel for the afternoon.

We'll complete our circuit of Andalusia this afternoon as we enter the seaside city of Malaga. After checking into our hotel, we'll have free time to explore the town. You can check out the Picasso Museum and if time permits, the famed Alcazaba fortified castle. Tonight, we'll meet one last time for our farewell dinner at a wonderful local restaurant. We'll exchange pictures, relive adventures, and celebrate our time together in Andalusia!

Today's hike is rated EASY, 3.4 miles in length, with 1224' of elevation gain and 1493' of elevation loss. The trail starts at 991' of elevation, tops out at 1365', and ends at 751'. The trail surface alternates between a packed earth and rock surface that winds along a valley, and a manmade metal catwalk that is suspended along the gorge's rocky walls.
