Rome, a modern city that still lives in its ancient past. This city is unlike any other in the world in that you’ll find an abundance of Renaissance art and architecture side by side with pre-Christian monuments, ancient ruins and antiquities are surrounded by medieval churches and crossed by modern piazzas. St. Peters Cathedral, the awe-inspiring world headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church is literally next door to one of the greatest collections of art treasures ever assembled. Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Da Vinci and Raphael are all household names in this city, center of the civilized world for over a 1000 years.
Day 1
Benvenuti a Roma
Your Lost in Italy tour leader can arrange a private or group transfer for you at the end of your Lost in Italy tour to Rome. You will arrive at your hotel in Rome around midday today, with plenty of time to get settled and explore the nearby area. We use small, beautiful hotels chosen for their location in the heart of the old city. From here it’s possible to walk to all of the important sites, and you’ll also be immersed in the wonderful nighttime ambiance of Rome…bustling, romantic piazzas lined with sidewalk cafes, beautiful illuminated fountains, and Romans strolling arm in arm along the winding cobblestone streets.
Day 2
Rome with a Roman
Experience Rome with a local guide today as they take you on a fascinating guided walking tour to several of the most interesting sites…St. Peter’s Cathedral, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum are just a few of the historic areas you’ll visit. Lots of smaller, lesser-known attractions will help fill in the gaps and expand your understanding of Rome and its past. Your guide can also give you some great ideas about what you might want to do tomorrow on your own exploration.
Day 3
Go Get Lost in Roma
Now that you have an understanding of Rome, you’re off on your own! There is so much to this massive city that you have to accept that it’s impossible to see it all in one trip. The shopping district along the Via Veneto is one of the best in the world, and the Spanish Steps, the Vatican Museum, the Villa Borghese and the Trastevere neighborhood are all worth your time to visit and experience. Of course cafes and ristoranti abound, so you’ll have no problem staying well fed on Roman cuisine during the day! This evening will be perfect for a nighttime stroll between the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona, center of Rome nightlife.
Day 4
Arrivederci Roma
Your Lost in Italy tour leader can arrange for a transfer this morning to the airport for your homeward flight. But it may not be farewell forever…if you tossed coins in the Trevi fountain last night, you’re sure to return to Rome!
