Venice, one of the most romantic and magical cities in the world, is also one of the great historical and cultural centers of Europe. Built on an island with canals for streets and a rich history that spans over a thousand years, Venice is truly one of the most unique places you’ll ever experience. Day 1 - Ben Venuti Venezia
It doesn’t matter which Go Get Lost tour you’re ending today, this morning after breakfast we’ll arrange a private transfer to a meeting point near Venice, (this transfer is optional, and not included in your tour package. Price will depend on group size, departing city, etc.) As you near the city your Venetian guide will meet you and see to the last leg of your journey, by private motorboat, to your Venetian hotel.
Despite its long history and formidable reputation, Venezia has retained its “small-city” ambiance and charm which makes it so loved by travelers the world over. It is without a doubt one of the most romantic venues in the world, and the combination of canals, winding streets, gondolas, and ancient monuments combine to create an atmosphere unique in all the world. Venezia is a study in contrasts: filled with tourists and noise, yet also having many quiet typically Venetian neighborhoods never seen by the tourists…an endless variety of restaurants catering to the visitors, and yet plenty of tiny trattoria patronized by shopkeepers, boatbuilders, fisherman, and a few lucky tourists willing to explore off the beaten path…world-famous art, churches, and monuments brought by centuries of traders and seafarers, and also innumerable small charming sites in out-of-the-way locations. Venezia is made to explore on foot, it’s as if it were created just for us!
This evening your guide will take you on a short “get-oriented” stroll through the neighborhoods around the hotel. Afterwards you will be free to roam and find the perfect spot for dinner. Your guide can provide you with plenty of recommendations. Venezia was made to wander, an after dinner passegiatta across the bridges, canals and squares of this city will be a memory you’ll always cherish.
Day 2 - Unknown Venezia
After breakfast this morning we’ll meet our local Venetian guide and start exploring! First we’ll walk to a typical boatbuilding shop to see firsthand how the famous gondolas are made. The gondoliers and the boats they pilot have been an iconic part of Venezia for hundreds of years, and the history behind the families and the craft is nothing short of astonishing. Later we’ll meander through the neighborhoods, alleys, and back streets of the “real” Venice while our guide explains some of the fascinating history and day-to-day facts of Venezia. We’ll have a chance to stop in a Murano glass artisan shop located nearby and marvel at the incredible complexity and artistry of the Murano glassblowers.
The afternoon will be free to wander. You can take the water taxi over to the island of Burano to see their world-famous Burano lace, or next door to Murano for a more in-depth tour of the main glass artisan shops. Shopping, of course, is one of the number one occupations of those visiting Venezia, so this might be the perfect opportunity for gift-buying, for friends and also for yourself!
Tonight you’ll meet in the garden of the hotel for a pre-dinner wine party. As the daylight fades and twilight closes in, you’ll board your private gondola for a truly memorable experience, gliding through the narrow canals of ancient Venice, guided by the expert skill of your gondolier. Eventually you’ll arrive in an area rarely frequented by tourists, and the location of one of our favorite local restaurants.
Here you’ll enjoy an exquisite Venetian meal, prepared at a place that caters to the natives, not the tourists. As your guide walks you back to your hotel after dinner, you’ll realize how the magic of Venezia comes into its own at night.
Day 3 - Go Get Lost
Now that you have a good understanding of how to move around the city, you have the entire day free to wander and get lost. You should have no problem with that, as Venice has an infinite amount of winding streets, romantic canals, and picturesque bridges linking all of the neighborhoods of this fascinating place. Museums, historical sites, and famous squares abound. Combine all of this with a seemingly endless variety of shops and restaurants, and you’ll find that one day just isn’t enough to take it all in. You’ll need to keep your eyes open as well, for tonight is your last dinner in Italy, and you’ll want to find the perfect spot.
Later, like the townspeople, you’ll want to wander to your favorite square, and as the evening wears on you’ll come to realize that your time spent in Italia may well have been some of the best of your life.
