Hotel Finder
We’ve been traveling around Italy for many years now, and we’ve accumulated quite a bit of time in hotels all over the country. (Normally we try to sponge off our relatives when we need a room for the night, but unfortunately our family is not as spread out as we would like.) If you’re arriving a day or two early, or staying in Italy after the tour to visit one of the bigger cities we can certainly point you toward some of the hotels we like. You can click on the city or area names below to see a map with hotel locations or click on one of the hotel links to go straight to our favorite hotels. The site also has a search feature that you can use to search other areas.
Based on location to sites, charm, restaurants, and hotel availability, here are our picks for the best areas: Rome, Florence, and Venice.
| Rome |
Rome - The center of Rome comes alive in the evening; the piazzas are lit, the fountains are fountaining, sidewalk cafes are bustling and people are strolling the winding cobblestone streets, gelato in hand. It’s very convenient to step outside of your hotel and be in the midst of this. During the day it’s also very handy to be located equidistant (more or less) and within walking distance from the Vatican, Roman Forum, Shopping District and the Spanish Steps. In our opinion you can’t beat the location of the Pantheon area, or as a second choice Trevi, Navona |

| Florence |
Here you have to decide if you want to be in the middle of the action, or if you want more hotels to choose from and quieter surroundings. Staying in one of the 3 centrally located areas will certainly put you in the midst of the sites, which is why I prefer them. Staying in one of the 3 outer areas will give you lots more hotels to choose from and probably a bit more quiet, but longer walks to some of the attractions. If you really want to get away from it all, try staying on the south side of the Arno River in the Palazzo Pitti area. |
| Ufizzi |
|
| Duomo |

| Palazzo Strozzi |
| Venice |
This town is a veritable maze of twisting streets and canals, with dozens of hotels scattered throughout. The closer you stay to St. Marks, the greater your selection. The ones we like tend to be centrally located and a good value. Make sure you have a good map! |
| San Marco - Both these hotels are good value |
|
| San Polo |
|
| Castello Ovest |
