Itinerary

Day 1 - Welkom Om Capetown

From Hoedspruit we'll board a flight for Capetown.  Upon arrival we'll have a guide and transfer waiting to meet us and take us to our 4* hotel in the city center.  Dinner tonight is on our own, but there are a few special places we might recommend, and Capetown has an endless variety of world-class restaurants.

Day 2 – Historic Center to the Waterfront

After breakfast today our local guide meets us at the hotel for our half-day City Tour. We'll see the Company Gardens, Greenmarket Square, the SA Museum and the Bo-Kaap district.  For lunch we will probably stop at a fun local place. (Lunch not included). The afternoon can be spent at leisure. We suggest a visit to the Victoria and Alfred waterfront, situated in the heart of Capetown's working harbor, offering an abundance of shopping and entertainment.

Day 3 - Penguins....Wine...or Sharks!

Today you have options! You can choose from one of three exciting adventures...the standard itinerary today is the Cape Peninsula and Hout Bay, one of the most iconic landscapes on the planet! You'll wander along a fantastic seashore area of majestic cliffs, pounding sea waves, quaint tourist villages and unusual wildlife. You'll have lunch at Cape Point (on your own) and then visit the penguin colony at Boulder Beach. Option two would have you depart for the fabulous Stellenbosch winelands tour.  You’ll visit vineyards, learn the history and operation of the local wine industry…and of course taste plenty of the wine!  You will enjoy a fantastic lunch at a vineyard in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek.  (Lunch included)  Then you’ll be returned to the hotel for a good night sleep.

The last option, for the more adventurous souls among us, is for an early morning departure for the 2 hour drive to legendary Gansbaai for our Great White Shark adventure!  (additional fee) On arrival we’ll have breakfast at the Great White house in Kleinbaai before boarding our boat.  After a short 25 minute ride we’ll arrive at our anchoring spot.  The 4-man cage is lowered, a scent trail is made in the water, and we settle down.  The rest of our time is spent watching, hopping into and out of the cage and enjoying the day!  Most of the shark watching these days is done without scuba, as they’ve found that the sharks will approach closer and stay longer when the scuba bubbles are not present.  This same boat has hosted many prestigious shark-filming groups, including National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC, Amos Nachoum, David Doubilet, Jean-Michael Cousteau, Steve Irwin, Peter Benchley,  and many more.  They certainly know their business!  After spending time with the sharks we make our way to Dyer Island (depending on sea conditions) to view African penguins, Cape cormorants and giant petrels.  Next to Dyer is Geyser Rock, home to 60,000 Cape Fur Seals.  The stretch of water between the two islands is the famous Shark Alley.  After about 3-4 hours we head back to land.  A light lunch is included while on board.  The boat will supply all equipment such as wetsuits, masks, weight belts, waterproof jackets and towels.

Day 4 - Mooi Loop

After breakfast we’ll have a transfer to Capetown Airport to catch flights back to the US.  This is an overnight flight home… and sadly our wonderful South African adventure is over!
